Chilly Softness

Chilly Softness
Watercolor
16x20"

Winter is over and it is now spring. We were fortunate that we had a warm winter here in Vancouver. It only  snowed a couple of times. The weather was sunnier and warmer than usual, while my friends and family in the Northeast experienced one of their harshest winters yet. So sorry my friends.
Chilly Softness is a painting that I demonstrated for my landscape painting class back in January. It was of the first snowfall of the year from a creek near my home.

The Guardian

The Guardian

This painting is of a beautiful arbutus tree in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island. It seems to stand guard on the edge of the bay, ever watchful, as if it is protecting those that live close to the bay.
Because of it's majestic beauty and size, I chose to paint it larger than I usually paint. Arbutus trees have a lovely reddish color to the bark. I had recently purchased Daniel Smith's Quinacridone Sienna on a whim and glad I had done so. It was the perfect color!
