Woodland Pasture

Woodland Pasture
11x14"

I just finished a workshop at Painter's Lodge in Campbell River, BC.
It was Fun and Free Watercolor Landscapes.
It was also a fun group.
For the workshop, I decided to put together a how-to DVD showing the steps of how to do the above painting.
I am in the process of redoing my website with a shopping cart and everything. Yeah!
For the meantime, if interested in purchasing the DVD, please contact me at leslieredheadart@gmail.com
Cost is $30 + shipping.
PayPal is accepted.

New YouTube Video and We Have A Winner!

Last week I spent some time putting together a video to be shown at my studio tour.
I had nearly 200 paintings showing and that was probably only half of what I have done!
It was amazing to see my work like that.
Since the video was 30 minutes long, I decided to break it down into parts to be shown on my YouTube channel.
The first one I have done is of my poured watercolors.
To view it, just click on the above painting or go to

I also have a winner for the online raffle!
It is Mamalena of Mamalenas Porch.
Congratulations!
You can view her blog by clicking here.

Thank you to everyone that participated.
I will be holding more raffles in the future so there is plenty of opportunity to win one of my original paintings.

Online Raffle

Discovery Passage
7.5x11"

Another studio tour and another successful event.
This was my first one since moving to Vancouver and I was able to meet some of my neighbors and learn more about my neighborhood.
It was also nice to see some of my students and friends.
Thank you to all that came out.

The winner of the raffle is Aleesa Sutton.
Yeah!

Here is what my home looked like for the tour

I felt bad that those of you that live too far away to come to the tour didn't get a chance to enter the raffle.
So I decided to hold an online raffle for the above original watercolor painting,
Discovery Passage.

Those of you that would like to be in the raffle, you must leave me a comment.
I will put all the names in a hat on Friday morning and pull the lucky winner out.

Good luck!

Studio Tour Raffle and Directions

Late Summer Berries
8x10"

I usually like to have a raffle for one of my original watercolors whenever I have a studio tour.
This raffle is for those that come to my studio during the 2 days that it is open.
This year the raffle is for the above painting.

The tour has started off quietly and then I was informed how hard it is to find my place.
The map apparently fails to mention that you must turn onto Tamath Crescent before getting onto Salish Dr.
Tamath is just after where SW Marine and 41st converge.
Turn left onto Tamath then and immediate left onto Salish.
The numbers appear to get smaller but just keep going because they go up again.

Look for the gold balloons and that's me!
Hope you are able to find me and enter the raffle for the above painting.

Artists In Our Midst Studio Tour May 19-20

This upcoming weekend I am participating in the Artists In Our Midst Studio Show, Tour and Sale.
Artists In Our Midst is a group of over 50 artists that are opening their homes and/or studios to the public.

It will be my first studio tour since moving to Vancouver.
So it is like a debut moment for me.
Hopefully it will be a success.

Tonight is a reception at the Roundhouse Community Centre.
All the artists have work being displayed.
It will be exciting to meet the other artists and to see all the wonderful pieces of art.

Please join me in my own studio (#36) on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, from 11am-6pm.
More information and a map can be found by clicking here.

Happy Mother's Day

My Mom
22x30"

Happy Mother's Day to my wonderful Mom!
She has been my biggest support and continues to be my greatest cheerleader.
(Plus she makes an awesome sitter for portraits.)

My mother has always encouraged me in the arts.
She would take me to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC when I was growing up and let me peruse the rooms filled with paintings.
My mother taught me the basics of drawing and would encourage my imagination.
She continues to help me on my artistic journey.

Thank you Mom for being there for me through it all.
You are not only my mom but my best friend.
I love you!

Ruffled Feathers

Ruffled Feathers
11x14
sold

This is another painting that I taught in my birds class on Wednesday mornings.
Bald eagles are in abundance here and they are always a pleasure to see.
I named it Ruffled Feathers because it reminded me of a couple that just quarreled, turning their backs to each other.
They were probably fighting over jelly.
(If you are a fan of the comedian Dane Cook, you will understand)

Pouring Workshop and Demonstration

Autumn's Harvest
14x20"

Last week I taught a pouring workshop and I also did a pouring demonstration.
For my workshops, I usually prepare 3 images of the same paintings.
This is because I don't have time to work on my own poured painting while teaching.
I like to be available to help others.
I will have my painting already masked at various stages then I will demonstrate how to pour the paint.
It is also helpful for the participants to see where I have masked.

Since I have such a busy life at the moment, I thought I would simplify it a bit by using the same painting that I did for my workshop for the demo.

Autumn's Harvest is the result.
There are still a few things that need to be done before I call it complete but not much.
It may be a few more days before I can finish it though.
I have another pouring demonstration tomorrow night which I am preparing a different scene for.

Here are some of the results from the workshop.
It was a great group and I enjoyed pouring with them.
Thank you to the awesome group for having me!

View From Jericho

View From Jericho
watercolor on clayboard
24x36"
sold

I posted a few weeks ago a painting that I had been working on and was able to finally called it complete last night.
Of course I had to call it complete because it went up this afternoon as part of my show at the Jericho Arts Centre here in Vancouver.
View From Jericho is the view from Jericho Beach on the west side of Vancouver.
Jericho Arts Centre is just down the street from the beach.
It is a small local theatre that hangs artwork of local artists.
I was pleased that they chose my work.
It is my first real gig here in Vancouver so I hope that it is successful and my name will be forever burned into art patrons minds.

Here is how all my paintings look after they were hung:

The show runs from now until May 20.
It was suppose to run until May 15 but the dates were changed at the last minute. I thought I would have those paintings that don't sell back for my studio tour. So I had to make some last minute decisions about which of my new paintings would go in and which would be in my tour.

Only those patrons of the Jericho Arts Centre will see the paintings.
However, if you are interested in seeing them, please let me know.
I will try to arrange a time for a viewing.
