I completed the painting yesterday after I pulled up the mask. I fixed the tree in the center and  put another wash of Winsor Red on the center columns and the awning. A few other minor fixes were done. The final piece is 25x 35". The gate is actually called The Gate of Harmonious Interest and is the entrance to Chinatown in Victoria.

Harmony Gate Revealed

I was going to post the final pour but I got so excited that I pulled up the mask as soon as the painting dried. This is the result. Now I need to straighten some lines and fix a few trouble spots then I am done.

Lower Johnson Revealed

Here is the Lower Johnson painting. All the masking fluid has been removed and this is the result of all those pours. Now I need to soften some edges and define others, then it will be complete.

Pour #5

Pour 5 for Lower Johnson. I will post the Big Reveal tomorrow.

Pour 5 for Chinatown. I don't feel like it is dark enough in some areas so I think I will do another pour before I reveal the painting.

This is the fourth pour for my Chinatown painting and my Lower Johnson painting. One more pour to go before the Big Reveal.

This is the third pour for my Chinatown painting and the third pour for my LoJo (Lower Johnson) painting.

Chinatown Pour #2

This is after the second pour for my Chinatown painting. It is hard to photograph since the masking fluid creates a glare. I am almost out of masking fluid so I can't work on it anymore until I get some more. I have class this afternoon so it is on the list of things to do tomorrow.

I was also asked in a comment about where in Spain I am going. I am teaching a workshop at an Old Mill that has been turned into a B&B (El Molino) near Iznajar. It is in southern Spain, about an hour north of Malaga. The group will be painting there and every 2-3 days we will go out to one of the local areas to get reference photos. Cordoba and Ronda are two of those places. I will be teaching how to pour watercolours. The class is not full yet so if anyone is interested the website is http://www.flavourofspain.net/. Demonstration

Today was a good day for painting although the day started off rather hectic. I had a lesson with some students and decided to demonstrate the above painting. While doing so, my dog decided to jump onto the coffee table in the front room and pull out all the tissues from the box and eat my flowers. I put her in the backyard so I could finish the lesson and she somehow got out. Fortunately my neighbor brought the dog back. I think the demonstration went really well in spite of all the interruptions. Especially since I sold it as soon as it was done!
The other exciting part of the day is trying to find flights to Spain! I am teaching a workshop there in June and I am so looking forward to it.

Pouring Watercolor

As my show in March is quickly approaching, I am frantically working on my last couple of pieces. They are pours of a few places in Victoria. A pour is where I use liquid watercolor and literally pour the paint onto the paper. Then I save what I want with masking fluid then pour again. I do this about 4-5 times, layering mask and then paint. This painting may not seem like much to see but it is only the first pour thus far. It is the gate in Chinatown. The painting will be 25x35" when it is completed. My biggest pour yet! I have masked out the white, poured, and masked again for the next pour. The mask is the white and yellow that you see.

This is of Lower Johnson Street across from Market Square. I poured twice and now need to mask again for the third pour. The paint becomes more concentrated each time I pour.
